Of late, I've been doing some research on the security advantages or drawbacks of IPv6 vis a vis IPv4, the reason for this being that I'm particularly interested in the issues of topology concealment and configuration portability (i.e.
HIGH PERFORMANCE NAS FOR MAC PRO
Spark! Pro series – 1st August 2022 Spiceworks Originals. So closer to a $15,000+ price-range and probably not also providing anything tailored to OS X if at all. For example, a truly "pro" level NAS would be EMC/Dell, NetApp, Nimble, Exagrid.

I have nothing against their products, I just had one purchased (after carefully ensuring it has an Intel not ARM processor, and more than the stock/basic amount of RAM) for a specific project, but it's extremely important to understand what it is and is not. Others are "Prosumer," sorry you were under the illusion that you've purchased something top-flight. You might have to try implementing your own build of Samba then.Īgain, they have a point and you're fighting against a long long long long long-standing, VERY well-known bug (to the rest of us, new to you but not many of us) Finder bug.Īt this point your best option is to make a new share with folders that each contain 100 or less items (the less the better) - get organized :-)Īs for Synology, many of their devices are for home-users or hobbyists. Try getting help from Synology to add at least vfs_fruit for their provided Samba. Mounted shares with very high numbers of items per folder.Ībsent using OS X Server as the host (not an option in most cases), you are going to have to chase "fixes" that will provide some remediation - but probably only partial unless and until Apple: The above mentioned items will help but only so far, because the other main source of the problem you describe is a known issue for the Finder in interaction with:Ģ. SMB installations that do not support custom calls that the Finder makes (Apple's does, test/compare if you can). What you are encountering is a known Finder bug that is most pronounced in interaction with:ġ. method and specify AFP://ipaddressofyourNAS Try AFP not SMB, and ensure you use the Go (menu) Connect to server.

It's vfs_fruit which you need (your Samba install to support), along with vfs_streams_xattr, I gave a link where they are discussed back in Oct 2014: Thank you very much for your help with this problem that its driving me nuts.

HIGH PERFORMANCE NAS FOR MAC SOFTWARE
My Macbook Pro has the latest software up to date: MacOS Sierra 10.12.6 It doesn't seem to make a difference if you try over Wifi or over Ethernet. I tried disabling AFP on the NAS and left only SMB, but nothing seem to change. This happened to me on a MacBook Pro 15" 2013 (the one I shot the video with) and on the new MacBook Pro 15" (2017) while on the Windows laptop mentioned below the speeds over Windows File Explorer are super fast. (even from the same laptop). Its usually more noticeable on folders with thousands of files.įor what I read on this post, it seems that the solution might be on the hands of Synology and enabling vfs objects "Fruits" ? (Sorry I dont know anything about Linux/Samba), but I am not entirely sure. I´ve recorded this quick video some time ago with the issue and comparing how on Windows access to the same share on the NAS works fine but from Finder it is really bad I already found and turned off the SMB signature which was affecting file transfers speeds, but I am desperately looking for a definitive solution to the actual problem which is speed when browsing and listing files.

I am experiencing very slow file listing and general behavior when I try to open for example a network share sitting on my Synology NAS (DS1513+) from my MacBook Pro 15" (2017) using Finder.
